Smoking can damage the heart and quitting smoking is the best effort to avoid heart disease. for that, taking vitamin E after quitting smoking can speed up the recovery of heart health.
Studies show that, for cardiac recovery in the former smoker can take time during the first decade of the heart so that the heart can return to resemble nonsmokers. This time is the time required for damage that occurs as a result of inflammation is lost, and the return of blood vessel elasticity to its original state.
So, in an effort to accelerate this recovery, researchers from Ohio State University focused their research into the use of vitamin E, which is known from the beginning that vitamin E is an antioxidant.
Richard Bruno, a professor of nutrition at Ohio State University say that "Vitamin E functions as an antioxidant that is effective for protection against grease which can damage the body". Bruno and colleagues, menrekruit 30 smokers who started smoking since the age of 20 years late and spend at least 1 pack per day. All the smokers quit smoking for 1 week, and 16 subjects received 500 mg of vitamin E per day which is called gamma tocopherol. Researchers used tocopherols, because the form of vitamin E is found in nuts and soybeans.
At the beginning and end of the study, researchers examined the blood of the subject to see signs of inflammation, the function of blood vessels, and blood vessels using ultrasound elasticity of the arteries in the hand. After 1 week, the subject was found an increase in blood vessel function by 2.8%, the group is also taking vitamin E increase it increased to 1.5%. Although this study only briefly with the subject slightly, the researchers found a 1% improvement in vascular function can reduce the risk of heart disease by 13%.
Bruno believes "Ultimately smua people who smoke should we persuade to berheti smoke, and if we can raise the issue that stops smoking can reduce the risk of heart disease, then the effect it can have an impact on public health outlook"
