Coconut water is the liquid that comes from young coconut. In recent years, there are few studies conducted to analyze the effects of coconut water. Coconut water contains many electrolytes (minerals), in which the electrolyte can be useful to hydrate the human body.
Electrolytes are also useful in maintaining the acidity of the blood and the effect on muscle contraction. Coconut water has a high potassium levels, which can support the health of the heart and muscles.
The benefits of coconut water that has been studied previously:
Exercising: Coconut water contains a lot of sodium can be useful in rehydration after exercise as mentioned by a study published in The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health in 2007.
The study examined 10 men after exercise which is divided into 4 groups: group 1 only plain water consume, consume electrolyte drinks group 2 group 3 consume coconut water alone, and group 4 consume coconut water contains a lot of sodium.
After examination 2 hours later shown that a high rehydration occurred in the group consuming coconut water with a high sodium levels as well as in those who consume electrolyte drinks.
Cholesterol: A preliminary study conducted in 2008 by researchers from the Food and Chemical Toxicology, found in coconut water has the effect of cholesterol treatment.
The study was conducted by comparing the drug to cholesterol (lovastatin) with coconut water in mice. After 45 days it appears that in both groups decreased the amount of LDL (bad cholesterol) and increased levels of HDL (good cholesterol). However, this study did not examine the basis of disease in patients with high cholesterol.
Well, although there is little evidence uncertain about the function of coconut water for our bodies, but clearly the levels of electrolytes in coconut water can help to replace the fluid that comes out when we exercise, when we are hot, when we feel thirsty, coupled with the freshness of coconut water, naturally Coconut water is a kind of liquid that we should try!
